Etuk Ubong is a Nigerian trumpeter, composer, bandleader and vocalist, and the creator of Earth Music — a musical philosophy developed from his desire to create music that speaks beyond borders, genres and conventional definitions.
At the centre of his work is The Etuk Philosophy, through which Ubong brings together Nigerian and African musical traditions with jazz, Afrobeat, highlife, Ekombi and contemporary global influences. His music is rooted in rhythm and tradition, but equally concerned with the present: humanity, freedom, spirituality, social consciousness, love, conflict, existence and the possibilities of collective transformation.
From Lagos, Ubong has developed a distinctive artistic language that is both deeply African and consciously universal. His performances with The Etuk Philosophy are energetic, communal and immersive, creating a space where music becomes a means of dialogue and connection.
Ubong has built an international performance history across Europe and beyond, appearing at major festivals and industry platforms including Roskilde Festival in Denmark, FMM Sines in Portugal, WOMEX, jazzahead! and Les Trans Musicales in Rennes, France. His international profile has also been strengthened through media and live performances, including a celebrated KEXP live session, bringing his music to a global audience.
His album Africa Today introduced a powerful expression of his artistic vision, while his continuing work has taken Earth Music further into questions of consciousness, society and the human experience. His forthcoming album, WHAT IF?, continues this exploration, asking a fundamental question: what if life is a dream?
Beyond recordings and touring, Ubong is also developing a wider cultural ecosystem around his music, including Truth Village in Lagos — a sacred communal music venue created as a space for people to gather, perform, exchange ideas and engage in optimistic dialogue.
With an expanding international network and a new touring programme for 2027, Etuk Ubong continues to establish Earth Music and The Etuk Philosophy as a distinctive contemporary African artistic language — grounded in Nigeria, open to the world, and created for the human race.
